Six Feet Under
Six Feet Under, episode 63 "Everyone's Waiting" - Airdate 8/21/05

David conquers a demon, Claire chases a dream, Brenda has a baby, Ruth finds happiness, Rico gets what he deserves and they all race toward the day they've been waiting for their whole lives. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

Handicapped
Willa Fisher Chenowith; 2005 -
Spina Bifida or Downs Syndrome would have been less challenging than a childhood with the Chenowiths.

Damaged
Brenda is broken and looking to mend through her children. Hopefully she'll heed Ruth's advice and live for herself because motherhood is the loneliest thing in the world.

Optimistic
Claire is vibrant, talented and much smarter than we all thought. She gave herself 20 years of freedom before tying the knot with Ted.

Enriched
In losing everything, Ruth found herself.

Exorcised
David released his demons --and turned into his father. It's amazing what can be accomplished once you've figured out that no one can torment you more than you torment yourself.

Fulfilled
Rico finally got what he deserved: a lifetime sentence with Vanessa.

Lucky
Not only was George cured of his maladies; he outlived all of his wives.

Happy
Maggie and Nate found bliss... and then he died and she moved on. See how fast life can change?

Moral of the Story
If we've learned anything from this show, it's that each day is something precious that we'll never get back and a day closer to the end of our ride. It's up to each of us to make the most of every moment. Live life to the max; be proud of who you are; explore all of your options and hold on to hope for as long as you can. Life is something to be happy about so don't shit all over it. To read more about the end of this staggering series, click here.

Alan Ball and the writers of Six Feet Under created a breathtakingly brilliant series finale, as well as the following obituaries.

Obituaries
Ruth O'Connor Fisher; 1945-2025

She is survived by her loving companion George Sibley, her sister Sarah O'Connor, her son David Fisher of Los Angeles and her daughter Claire Fisher of New York City. Ruth will also be missed by her four cherished grandchildren - Maya Fisher, Willa Chenowith and Anthony and Durrell Charles-Fisher. Keith attended West Point Military Academy, graduating with a degree in Criminology in 1989. He served the city of Los Angeles as a member of the LAPD for nine years before joining the security industry. He leaves behind his devoted husband David Fisher and loving sons Durrell and Anthony Charles-Fisher, his grandson Matthew, his sister Karla Charles and his niece Taylor Benoit of Carlsbad. David James Fisher; 1969-2044
Born January 20, 1969. Died at the age of 75 in Echo Park. He was proud owner and operator of Fisher & Sons Funeral Home of Los Angeles for over forty years. After retiring in 2034, he went on to perform in dozens of local theater productions, including Weill and Brecht's "Threepenny Opera," Rossini's "The Barber of Seville," and as Ebenezer Scrooge in Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." David leaves behind his partner Raoul Martinez, his beloved sons Durrell and Anthony Charles-Fisher, his sister Claire Fisher and his three precious grandchildren Matthew, Keith, and Katie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southern California Opera Association.

Hector Federico Diaz; 1974-2049
Died at the age of 75 while vacationing with his wife in Puerto Rico. Federico graduated from Cyprus College in 1997 with a degree in Mortuary Science. He worked as a restorative artist for several years before becoming part owner of Fisher & Diaz Funeral Home on 25th Street. In 2005, Federico opened the Diaz Family Mortuary on DeLongpre Avenue in Hollywood, where he served the community for 35 years before retiring.

Pre-deceased by his parents Mauricio and Lilia Diaz of Los Angeles. He was married to his beloved wife Vanessa for 54 years and leaves behind his cherished sons Julio and Augusto, and his three grandchildren, Emily, Celestina and Vincent. Memorial service will be held at Diaz Family Mortuary on Saturday, February 16th at 11:00 a.m. Funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. the following day at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Atwater Village.

Brenda Chenowith; 1969-2051
Brenda Chenowith was born July 19, 1969 and died at the age of 82 at home. She earned her Masters Degree in Social Work at California State University of Los Angeles and a PhD in Theories of Human Behavior at University of Southern California.

Brenda wrote several books about the role of the gifted child in family development. She is considered to be one of the most distinguished scholars in that field of study, and added several courses to the Social Work curriculum at USC. She developed research methodologies to conclusively prove the link between deviant human behavior and fetal alcohol exposure. As a child, Brenda was the subject of the book "Charlotte Light and Dark" by Gareth Feinberg, PhD.

Brenda will be dearly missed by her beloved children, Maya Fisher, Willa Chenowith and Forrest Nathanson, her loving husband Daniel Nathanson, and her brother William Chenowith of Malibu. Private services will be held Wednesday March 9th at Deep Creek Nature Preserve. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Claire Simone Fisher; 1983-2085
Born March 13, 1983. Died February 11, 2085 in Manhattan. Claire grew up in Los Angeles and studied art at LAC-Arts College. She worked as an advertising and fashion photographer and photojournalist for nearly fifty years, creating several memorable covers for Washington Post magazine, W, and The Face. Claire often exhibited her work in New York and London art galleries, and in a time when nearly everyone else in her field had turned to digital scanning and computer-driven imaging, she continued to use a silver-based photographic process. Claire began teaching photography as a faculty member at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2018, earning tenure in 2028. She's pre-deceased by her beloved husband Ted Fairwell.

Six Feet Under, episode 61 "All Alone" - Airdate 8/07/05

David cracks, Claire escapes, Ruth commands, Brenda freezes, George returns and Nate rests. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

All Apologies
Nathaniel Samuel Fisher, Jr.; 1965-2005.
Nate was an idealist searching for the meaning of his existence. When he finally put the last piece of the puzzle in place, someone pushed it off of the table.

Miss Manners
Maggie's summer reading must have included Emily Post's etiquette guide. A quiche is the proper thing to give the wife of your ex-stepbrother after you've screwed him to death. It says so on page 86. If you don't believe me, go look for yourself.

Blindsided
In her grief, Claire found solace in a Top 40-loving, Republican with a stable job and a bank account. Nate may have died but Claire's the one getting her life snuffed out.

Ghosts
The only thing more frightening than David tending to his brother's harvested body is the self-loathing that's making him feel like he should have died.

Ice Princess
We all know that Brenda is cold, but to tell Maya that her daddy's dead like her first mommy is just downright frosty.

Matriarch
Ruth proved that she is still the backbone of the Fisher family… and that God is sometimes an asshole.

Six Feet Under, episode 60 "Ecotone" - Airdate 7/31/05

Claire gets sideswiped, Ruth gains clarity, David remains a pillar, Maggie wins and Nate finally finds peace. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

It's a Jungle Out There
Lawrence Hall Matheson; 1971-2005.
I thought the only cougar in LA was John. Turns out I was mistaken.

Republican Nest
Underneath Claire's conservative clothes lies a Democrat at heart. Unfortunately, it looks like she'll end up with a redneck blogging pig who'll provide her with the emotional and financial support she's been lacking since her daddy died.

Empowered
Ruth revisited her past loves and realized she's not a receptacle. But when she finds out that she was wandering the woods when her son passed away she'll feel more like trash than ever.

Entrusted
It was only fitting that David be there to give Nate his final send-off, even though he is the one who will be pushed over the edge.

Enlightened
Nate was blessed with enough time to realize the difference between drama and passion, smile at his true love and become bloated with contentment for figuring out his path in life after only a 40-year journey.

Charlotte Light and Dark
Brenda is a storm cloud and Maggie is the ray of sunshine that pierces it. In the end, both will get what they deserve.

Six Feet Under, episode 59 "Singing for our Lives" - Airdate 7/24/05

Ruth is bewitching, the boys take David and Keith for a ride, Brenda gives too little too late, Claire walks a fine line and Nate crosses one. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

Speed Kills
Pilar Sandoval; 1970-2005.
Someone should have given Pilar the definition of dog walker. While her close-knit family taught her many life lessons, sadly, looking both ways before rollerblading at warp speed down an LA street was not one of them.

Napoleon Complex
Because little Ricky is emasculated by his wife at home, he is embalmed with self-importance at work.

Derelicts
You can take the kids out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of the kids.

Freak Show
Claire's college friends are more surfacy than their art, and her colleagues are more frightening than their fraternity pranks.

Martyr
Jackie finally told Brenda to shut the fuck up and face reality TV. So after watching American Idol, Brenda headed over to church for a little Quaker Oats with Nate. Imagine her surprise when he wasn't there. Do you think she used her quiet time to meditate or to plot revenge?

Landing Strip
Instead of silently waiting to be filled with the presence of God, Nate managed to fill Maggie with himself. And just when he thought he was finally going to embrace peace and enlightenment, God knocked him on his ass. Perhaps he should have sat silently for just a while longer.

Six Feet Under, episode 58 "The Silence" - Airdate 7/17/05

David and Keith trade porn for puppies, Rico fights a losing battle, Nate and Brenda face reality, Ruth cooks up a catastrophe and Claire falls into the abyss. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

The Voyeur
Peter Thomas Burns; 1948-2005.
Did Peter see a killer show or was he bored to death? Either way, he put on quite a performance of his own.

The Bachelor
George must be downing a side of Viagra with his shock treatments because he wasted no time finding another dazed and desperate devotee to care for him while he hunts for his next new wife.

The Chef
When life gives you lemons you're supposed to make lemonade, not potato salad like Ruth.

The Ingénue
Although she knows her shit does, in fact, stink, Claire's has yet to realize that the office life sludge she's knee deep in rises quickly and suffocates everyone.

The Houseboy
Vanessa should be more careful about what she wishes for. She wanted help with the housework and kids but she didn't think she was going to have to pay for it.

The Convert
Nate went searching for God in a moment of silence and found an angel instead.

The Parents
It's official. Sissy's kids adopted David and Keith.

The celezbrities
With Cynthia Stevenson as the Women's Studies Professor and Sarah McLachlan wailing in the background, red is becoming my new favorite color. Could an episode featuring Belinda Carlisle and Marcia Cross be on the horizon?

Six Feet Under, episode 57 "The Rainbow of her Reasons" - Airdate 7/12/05

Ruth embraces freedom, David shows a softer side, Rico goes in for another round, Nate drowns in sorrow and Claire is stripped of creativity and uniqueness. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

Ceramicist
Fiona Lenore Klienschmidt; 1952-2005.
Fiona lived her life on the edge, so falling off of one in scenic Topanga Canyon seems only fitting.

Revolving
A door was slammed in George's face and another one opened for Ruth. She finally figured out that life is what you make of it.

Transition
Claire's descent into office life purgatory has begun. She'll soon find that cubicles, paperweights, bathroom passes, lunch breaks, dress codes and social climbers are far more constricting than her control top pantyhose.

Longing
The passing of Nate's first love is as tragic as the death of his marriage. It's a good thing Maggie is a caretaker because she's going to be spending all of her time nursing him back to reality.

Crying
Vanessa invited Rico in out of desperation and need. I thought they only did things like that in Canada.

Trying
David and Keith are giving parenthood a shot but may be better off with a couple of goldfish.

Affirmation
No one can tell anyone else what to do, what to be or who they are. If you don't believe in yourself, no one else will.

This week's celezbrities
Kathy Bates, Patricia Clarkson, Anne Ramsay and Susie Bright guest star; Angelina is on the tube and Joan Armatrading is belting out tunes in the background. Is this a television show or an Olivia cruise? Some color has finally been splashed on the morose Fisher family, and the rainbow looks pretty good.

Six Feet Under, episode 56 "Eat A Peach" - Airdate 7/04/05

Rico plays dirty, Ruth considers freedom, David and Keith make a new friend, Claire gets high and Brenda plays mind games with Maya. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

Relatives
Daniel Holzenchenko; 1939-2005.
Although cling peaches are much tastier than cold cuts or bacon-wrapped ham balls, there are more enjoyable ways to rid oneself of an annoying family.

Phone Home
It's a good thing David and Keith are considering adoption because Keith's baby with the surrogate would look like E.T. when he dressed up in the blonde wig.

Coherent Narrative
Any way you sugarcoat it, Maya's story is not a good one. Her biological mother was a man-trapping cheat, her daddy is an emotional cripple and her stepmother is a psychopath. Maybe she should attend one of those adoption fairs herself.

Head Trip
There are no emotional lines the Chenowith's won't cross when fighting for what they want, and if Claire weren't so stoned she would have figured that out.

Dumper
Ruth is finally taking a tip from her circle of friends and is ready to give George the big heave-ho. Let's just hope she has it in her.

Six Feet Under, episode 55"Time Flies" - Airdate 6/27/05

Rico and Vanessa learn that old habits die hard, Ruth takes up a new hobby, David and Keith ponder parenthood, Claire hops from gross to grosser, Brenda bakes a bun and Nate goes batty. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

Trend
Lila Simonds Coolidge; 1909-2005.
First Elvis, then Little Edie, now Lila. When you're ready to flush this world down the drain there's no place more fitting than the shitter.

Downer
Nate is still searching for meaning and purpose. I'm guessing they're not under the cloud of gloom he's been carrying around for the last 40 years.

Children of the Corn
No, I'm not talking about the robotic Maya or Brenda's embryo. I'm talking about those whippersnappers with the quick wit and know-it all-attitude who gave David a run for his money. They're my kind of people.

Dazed and Confused
How is it possible that Claire could find a guy who is more unappealing than Billy? There's something to be said for those brain cells she's destroying.

Supporting Sappho's
Who can resist Anne Ramsay as Brenda's coworker, Jackie Feldman (A.K.A Robin from the L Word), or Julie Brown as Roger's wife, Sissy? Now let them hook up and we'll be in business.

Six Feet Under, episode 54"Hold My Hand" - Airdate 6/20/05

Rico gets his groove on, Claire ripens, Brenda and Nate go nuclear, David's past slaps him in the face and Ruth wishes her current husband would get hit by a bus like her previous one. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

Remake
Loretta Smith-Sibley; 1908-1953.
The redhead and the momma's boy are eerily similar to characters in The Hours, and when I squinted at the television just the right way I saw Julianne Moore. But who can't relate to the premise? Come on, admit it; when you're a vodka swigging, pill popping drunk even a fried bologna and Velveeta samich tase-tes good.

Episodic
The lines are blurring between David & Keith and Michael & Ben, except Michael didn't get arrested for fucking a hustler and Keith is not HIV positive. That will happen next week.

Real World
Ruth's off the wagon. First it was Sambuca, this week it's red wine and next week she'll be making out with her roommates in a hot tub.

Dr. Phil
Brenda found the perfect job. It’s so much fun to laugh at people who are more screwed up than you are.

Dumb and Dumber
Those non-lesbian orgasms must have destroyed Claire's cognitive abilities. Why is it that she can't tell when Billy's off his rocker? And the more pressing question: How did Claire wrangle a trust fund when all Nate and David got were corpses and crypts?

Six Feet Under, episode 53 "Dancing for Me" - Airdate 6/13/05

David and Keith order scrambled eggs, Nate revisits his youth, Rico gets rejected, Claire sleeps with the devil, Brenda tries to find herself and Ruth looses her cool. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

Driving Miss Daisy
Samuel Wayne Hoviak; 1965-2004.
Accidentally driving over oneself is the newest epidemic sweeping the nation. It actually happened to my aunt, but she didn't die. Once we stopped laughing at her we took some photos and then laughed some more. Really. I swear.

Less Toxic Exposure
Maya is the next Fisher in line for a therapist. I'm not sure what's worse, having your mother killed by your uncle or walking in on your dad screwing your new mommy.

Mother Nature
David and Keith are still trying to fertilize their seeds, but they'll soon figure out that it's not what's planted that counts, it's what blooms.

I Wish I'd Never Seen Your Face
This time it's not about Maggie; Ruth is singing the blues about George.

Lesbohemian
Oh if only Claire would have stayed with Edie… she'd be inspired to make art, she'd have better sex and she'd hurt her mother a whole lot more.

Death is reality
Nate learned what we gays have known forever: you only get one shot at this life so you might as well shake it up, be who you are and make no compromises.

Six Feet Under, episode 52 "A Coat of White Primer" - Airdate 6/06/05

Brenda and Nate lose their baby, David and Keith consider finding one, Rico basks in his codependency, Clair gets bitch-slapped and George gets the shock of his life. Log onto http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/ for more details.

Accidents Happen
Andrea Kuhn; 1963-2004.
Andrea deserved an andiron to the eye for all of the pain and suffering she caused by bellyaching to everyone about how they made her feel.

Bourgeois Narcissist
I'm not sure why Keith is on a baby kick; he already has David.

Reality Bites
Ruth needed a glass of Sambuca to help her wash down the bitter taste of regret. An "I-told-you-so-sandwich" is hard to swallow, even if you're shoving it down your own throat.

I Smell a Fisher
Claire dropped out of college, is dating a psychopath and is beginning to look like she's on the Anna Nicole diet. I liked her so much better when she was an almost-lesbian.

Marital Bliss
Nate did it right the second time around. There's nothing like commemorating your wedding day by celebrating with your indigent step-father, your miscarried baby and your murdered ex-wife.

Visions
Brenda imagined that Lisa was taunting her, which is completely normal. After popping Vicoden and a throwing back a few glasses of champagne, I'd see dead people too.
